Posts and Telecommunications Minister Mostafa Jabbar said unimaginable progress has been made at the government level in digitization in the last 13 years. However, the private sector, including industry and commerce, is lagging behind as expected. He was speaking as the chief guest at a webinar titled "Digital Business Process Under ERP Will Help in Cost Management" organized by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Bangladesh (ICAB) on Wednesday.
The Minister of Posts and Telecommunications highlighted the progress of Bangladesh in digitization and said that Bangladesh is exporting software to 80 countries of the world. He described the ICAB's Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) seminar as a very timely event and said that ERP was a huge canvas. It is not possible to discuss its enormity on a very small scale. He said that as a result of the far-sighted decision of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to build a digital Bangladesh, Bangladesh has established itself as a role model in the world today, overcoming hundreds of years of backwardness.
He added that the whole world has entered the era of digital currency. Now, this is the time to think about artificial intelligence, robotics, blockchain, cryptocurrency. If we don't use these digital devices, we will fall behind
Expressing the need to take the opportunity of digital Bangladesh program and take the digitization effort forward in an integrated enterprise, the Minister said that extraordinary achievements are possible if such initiatives can be implemented through an integrated platform. Highlighting his experience of starting work on computers 35 years ago, he said that the work we have done in the development of computer technology by using Bangladesh Computer Society as a platform to contribute to the tax-VAT withdrawal of computers and highlighting the need for computers would not have been possible without concerted efforts.
